Mixin' the Elements

I am currently obsessed with mixed elements in the architecture/design world. Particularly, the mix of wood, metal and glass. This seems to be all I'm pinning on my pinterest boards. I've decided there are two reasons for my newest obsession. One being that it's a modern look but not uber modern. Uber modern to me has no color and while I LOVE color I can't necessarily commit to one in my house. I don't want the colorless house either, which is uber modern to me. My second reason is I'm not committed to one color way or scheme for my house, as in, warm or cool tones. Mixed elements have both therefore, I can change my accent pieces on a whim and it doesn't involve a can of paint. I call this a win! What's your design preference? Below are pix of my mixed elements of love.

RIP Steve

"If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on." Steve Jobs, 1955 - 2011

Art

I love art...I lean towards abstract, but then other types strike my fancy when I least expect it. Lucky for me last Sunday was free museum day in Austin. Yippee for me! Now truth be told I can only see so many exhibits in one day before it all blurs together. I chose 2 places I wanted to visit and off I went. I chose Blanton Museum and Women and Their Work. No particular reason on why I chose these two, other than I always love going to Blanton and I had never been to Women and Their Work. The following pics are random ones I found on the internet...enjoy~

Kindness

Perhaps, you need naked lacquered man to go with your disco lady.

Basically, if you can't make it to NYC just have the skyline printed up on your fancy settee...close enough, right?

Fall

One can dream, right? Technically, Fall begins today 9/23, current weather conditions need not apply. If a cold front comes in, this was written on the 19th, and I can't be held accountable:-) I'm ready for a new season. Here's what I'm dreaming of for this Fall season...

Tights, layers, new colors...oh, the fun!!!

Fun coats...I know it's TX, but one has to have hope.

A new du, perhaps...

Holiday parties. Yes, I know not Fall season, but they'll be here before you know it.

Hopeful

"When you paint success pictures in your mind, you initiate an inner process whereby your attitudes, hopes, aspirations, and enthusiasm are elevated in response to an image of a more promising future. Every person who aspires must first sell themselves hope, the promise of a better life."
U.S. Andersen

House in Seattle designed by Elemental Architects. Cantilevering top story equals brilliant!

Cool house in Mexico City. Love all the elements used!

I'm obsessed with circle windows. There's a house being built on Mary St with one...so far, I've refrained from jumping the chain link fence to take a peak.

Interesting Day

9/11 is always going to be an interesting day for me. Yes, like everyone else I remember exactly where I was when tragedy struck, at home in San Francisco talking to my mom on the phone. 9/11 is her birthday. Tough day to have a birthday, something one should celebrate.

With that said I ran across a very moving photo on one of the blogs I follow. Here ya go...

Words of Wisdom

Out of Chaos and Confusion

The man without a purpose is
like a ship without a rudder-
waif, a nothing,
a no man.
Have a purpose in life, and, having it,
throw such strength of mind
and muscle into your work
as God has given you.
~Thomas Carlyle (1795- 1881)

Travel Anyone

I think layovers in airports would be so much better if they had a more hospitable design to them like the following ones. One is in Switzerland and the other in London. I could use some international travel.

Naturally, the colorful terminal is my fav. Hello, bright jewel tones, how I love thee. Obviously, I need to go to Biel, Switzerland real soon. Andrin Schweizer Company did a beautiful job.

The above is Biggin Hill Airport, London designed by SHH Architects. I think the muted tones would be a nice break from a harried travel day. Love them both!
