Things You See

I always forget how much more I see of Austin when I'm on foot. Need to be checking things out more often before the 200 degree weather hits. Sunday morning I decided to go out and tour South Lamar while there was no traffic. For the record, I really wish I thought of this prior to the demolitioning of Alamo Drafthouse. Damn hindsight 20/20. Not too worry, there was tons to see.
Very important place on S. Lamar, Saxon Pub

 Alamo Shopping Center was here...

Stores that made up the Alamo Shopping Center. I really need to look at the renderings of the new shopping center, see if it meets with my approval, ha!

I have driven up and down S. Lamar countless times and never once have I noticed this precious green house...

Nope never noticed this yellow building either. And these are things I noticed when on foot on S. Lamar.

Love

I stumbled upon this wall while downtown the other morning. I know it's been there FOREVER...but you know when you're walking you notice things a lot more. Love how we use the sides of our buildings for art...makes my heart sing.

Yes, you needed to see the wall twice.

E.A.S.T Austin Tour

It was a fantastic weekend, hanging out with old college friends, perusing art, meeting new people and live music, of course. How was your weekend?
Below are some of the awesome artists I saw during the E.A.S.T Austin Tour. Enjoy~
Haven by Rebecca Rothfus
You really need to see Rebecca's stuff in person the layers are amazing. I love work that involves pencil, it reminds me of all the sketching I had to do in Design school.
Matt Mason
Matt has a variety of sketches, drawings and sculpture. It was fun chatting with him about his process and the things he finds to put in his work. Different for sure!
Elisa Gomez
Reconciliation by Paul Meyer
One of my stops I ran into my first Drawing Professor from Design school. Technically, he's an artist and I totally forgot he has work all over Austin. I ran into him and was reintroducing myself to him (it's been 5 years since I've seen him), he had that glazed over look, like, no recollection of me at all. Anyway, I didn't take a pic of his work and his site doesn't let me download, but check him out. Shawn Camp.
Ok, seems quite a few artists don't let you use work from their website and I didn't snap pix at all of our stops...bummed. One artist is sending me a Jpeg of a hers I loved...I will share it soon.
It was a great tour!!!

What To Do

When your Mom and Sis come to town for one day, and it's raining the entire day...

You drive them around in the rain showing them the various neighborhoods and Austin-y type things, then make a stop at Target. Odd I know, but my parents don't have a Target in their town so it really was super exciting. Once everyone is sick of riding around in the rain you do the following until its time to go to dinner...
