Thanks Mel!

"Your time is limited so don't waste it living someone else's life." ~ Steve Jobs

I was logging on to post the above quote when my friend, Mel, sent me the following quote. Thanks so much for thinking of me Mel.

"We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day." ~Edith Lovejoy Pierce

No Title

If I have just one aim,
And if that aim is to be myself,
Then I am bound to discover joy,
True joy, eternal joy.

If you can create harmony
In your own life,
This harmony will enter
Into the vast world.

The transformation of life
Begins with a soulful smile
Of the heart.

At the dawn of each day,
Let us make our hopes
And promises
As sincere and powerful
As possible.

~ Sri Chinmoy

Belated Merry Christmas to all!!!

"Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have a real spirit of Christmas."  ~Calvin Coolidge

New Year Word

I stole this title from a blog I love to read...she’s the cutest person ever (Tolly), nevermind the fact I’ve never met her. Her writing makes me feel like I’ve known her for years. Here’s the thing I’ve never done resolutions because they last all of a nano-second for me. I do however make goals for the new year then do a check-up re-evaluation on my b-day, which is close to the half-way point of the year. The thought Tolly shared was she chooses a new year word to live by. I really like this idea. The word tends to help make your goals a reality instead of white noise written on paper. I’ve been throwing around some words but haven’t completely settled on one.

Here's what I've thought of so far:
Love- Love what I do, love the people I’m with, fall in love, love life and all that it entails. This word also makes my heart smile. I feel like anytime you’re smiling life is infinitely better.

Calm- Breathe more. Stop smell the roses. Slow down in general. I have days where I feel like life is passing me by, like where did 2010 go. I swear I just graduated last month, but no, it’s been an entire year. I also like this word to keep me from blowing a gasket when I don’t get my way immediately. My temper seems to be shorter these days and I’m not sure why...clearly, this needs to be remedied, STAT!

Create- Create my lifestyle now that it’s free of school and homework. Create my home. Maybe this will get me to tackle the 400 projects I’ve written down I want to do and haven’t scratched one off the list...again, something that needs to be remedied.

Savor- I just like the sound of this word. Meaning- verb. to give oneself to the enjoyment of: to savor the best in life. Don’t you just love that? I could use this word when creating my weekly schedule. I've got to work on saying no to things, so I ca make room for the things I wish to accomplish. I had no idea I was a yes girl until recently.
What are your thoughts, a word, goal, resolution???

Hope

"For what it's worth: It's never too late, or in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There's no limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you're proud of. If you find that your not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.

I heart Audrey Hepburn

The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It's the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years. - Audrey Hepburn

Entertaining

Something I've always wanted to do was entertain friends in my home. I find dinner parties to be so fun & intimate. Here's the challenge I don't cook very often. I will say I am slowly working to correct said challenge. I've been going through my binders of table settings...hoping to speed up my cooking skills. Tomorrow I'll be trying out a new turkey chili recipe. Who am I kidding, all recipes for me are a new, try-out kinda thing. Wish me luck! Here are some of the table settings I enjoy.

This is one of my favorite table settings.
I think the flowers make it.

A more simple setting that feels like you'd be
enjoying some robust red wine.

I love these green chairs with a touch
of blue on the table.

As we express gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.

‎"As we become internally directed and stop obsessing with what other people think we should do, what other people think we should say, we learn to let ourselves be and we stop being so focused on ourselves." ~ Alicia Marie Fruin, Coach -

Life’s most simple lessons are often the best

BUSINESS COURIER OF CINCINNATI - BY Harvey Mackay COURIER CONTRIBUTOR

Gordon Dean was an American lawyer and prosecutor whose distinguished career was fairly typical for Washington types. He went to work for the Justice Department under President Franklin Roosevelt, taught in the law schools at Duke University and the University of Southern California. He was appointed as one of the original commissioners of the Atomic Energy Commission in 1949 by President Harry Truman, eventually becoming its chairman from 1950-53.

When Dean died in a plane crash in 1958, it’s said that among his personal effects was an envelope with nine life lessons scribbled on the back. These lessons aren’t about the law, or atomic energy, or foreign relations. Rather, they represent wisdom that should be shared and used by people everywhere.

These are his superb lessons:
1. Never lose your capacity for enthusiasm.
2. Never lose your capacity for indignation.
3. Never judge people – don’t type them too quickly. But in a pinch never first assume that a man is bad; first assume that he is good and that, at worst, he is in the gray area between bad and good.
4. Never be impressed by wealth alone or thrown by poverty.
5. If you can’t be generous when it’s hard to be, you won’t be when it’s easy.
6. The greatest builder of confidence is the ability to do something – almost anything – well.
7. When confidence comes, then strive for humility; you aren’t as good as all that.
8. The way to become truly useful is to seek the best that other brains have to offer. Use them to supplement your own, and be prepared to give credit to them when they have helped.
9. The greatest tragedies in the world and personal events stem from misunderstandings. So communicate!

On This Day...

I read this quote, which I've probably posted before, but today is the perfect day for it to be e-mailed to me.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be?" –Marianne Williamson
